Home / Heat pump rebate
The federal heat pump rebate for Edmonton homes: who qualifies and when
Announced October 8, 2026. Not open yet. Here's what's confirmed, what isn't, and how to be ready.
Status as of November 4, 2026: announced, portal not open. Expected launch: early 2027.
How much you could get
| Household | Rebate |
|---|---|
| Income below the median (threshold not yet published) | Up to $10,000 |
| All other eligible homeowners | $2,000 |
The program is part of a $2 billion federal plan to support one million home retrofits over eight years, with the heat pump rebate aimed at up to 820,000 households.
Who it's for
- Homeowners replacing a heating system that has broken down or is near the end of its useful life.
- Electric cold-climate air-source heat pumps only, and the exact model must be on the federal Eligible Products List.
- Full rules on property types and occupancy haven't been published yet.
How applying is expected to work
- Apply online through the federal portal with basic details and the heat pump you plan to install.
- Get confirmation of eligibility and your rebate amount, which the government says will come within 24 hours.
- Have the heat pump installed.
- Upload your receipts.
- Receive the rebate by direct deposit, which the government says will be approved within about five days of submitting receipts.
Because confirmation comes before installation, the safest order is apply first, install second.
What to do now if you're in Edmonton
- Furnace still working? Get quotes now, choose a cold-climate model, and book the install for after you've applied.
- Furnace failing this winter? Ask installers about a short-term repair to bridge to the launch, and get the cost in writing so you can compare.
- Need financing? Edmonton's Clean Energy Improvement Program offers financing repaid through your property tax bill. It covers heat pumps; it covers a high-efficiency gas furnace only when combined with a heat pump.
- Watch out for: anyone promising a guaranteed rebate amount before the rules are out, or pushing a model without showing you it's cold-climate rated.
What Edmonton's own rebates look like now
The City's Home Energy Retrofit Accelerator rebates and residential solar rebates are fully subscribed, so there's no City rebate to add right now. Financing through the Clean Energy Improvement Program is still available and can be combined with other rebates.
